Recovering corrupted DAT media

Occasionally bad things happen. One is that a DAT tapes become corrupted, such that the directory is unreadable. In this case there is a General Electric utility to repair the tape.

  1. Place the corrupted media into the DAT drive on the Signa cpu (located to the right of the equipment room door...)
  2. Get an xterm
  3. Once the window open on the Signa console, type:

    datrecover

This will present a pleasant informational message, and will work in its own sweet time.

  4. When the process is complete, the plasma screen will state:

The archive DAT media in the drive has been successfully recovered.
It is now a valid media

  5. When done, you can either touch [Cancel] or type 'exit' to leave the GShell

Congratulations, you have just repaired your tape.
