Retrieving Data from Tape or CD
For data June 2nd,1999 or more recent:
1. Take the file name (eg. HC-Dubois9) or exam number (eg. 1896)
of your subject
2. Log into an alpha, eg. porkpie
3. Type 'cd /pp/k/wls/backup'
4. Type 'grep HC-Dubois9 *' or 'grep 1896 *'
It will output the tape with the track number as well as the CD number for all files backed up:
tape47.1.apd5.A001465.Oct21.99:a apd5/anmr_scans/image/HC-Dubois9_01896_00001_00001_00001_002.img 705 blocks
Means that this file is both on tape 47, file block #1, as well as on CD A001465
For earlier data
Look up the date the scan was performed, as well as the apd drive it was scanned to,
and find the CD which is dated closest to but after the scan date. It is probably easiest to look up the name in the following folder on LadyDay:
Joule8880:download folder:completed CDs:all-apd-rename-files-here.
You will need to find the rename file anyway in order to rename your data files, which were stored in 8-character ISO format.
CD retrieval
1. Get the CD from the data vault (see Alison or Fred for access)
3. Use Fetch to put your files. Be sure to use binary and raw
data formats!
***
For CDs created before 1.24.00, you will have to rename your .img files to use them with our tools:
Example for file HC-Test+2000+4+7+1+1.img:
mv HC-Test+2000+4+7+1+1.img HC-Test+2000+4+7+1_001.img
* CDs after 1.24.00 have been fixed for ya...

DAT retrieval (only if the CD does not work or is not found)
This is more complicated.
*Note this is only for June 2nd, 1999 data or more recent. For other data it is even worse ...
DO NOT DO THIS WITHOUT FIRST CONSULTING ALISON OR FRED
1. Find the tape you looked up above
2. Be sure the write protect is on
3. If there is no tape in the signa tape drive, insert the tape
5. Type 'setenv TAPE /dev/nrst0'
- 6. Now, remember the file block-
- If it is 0, you don't have to do anything.
- If it is 1, then type 'mt fsf 1'
- If it is 2, then type 'mt fsf 2'
7. Go to a directory that has 600MB of free space
9. If you get a permission denied error, please consult Fred or Michael
