DRAFT: 8-25-98
The following is a step-by-step description of how-to acquire data in the UCLA 3T MRI research lab.

1. Log into the fMRI logger on the Instascan terminal [more info.]

2. Consent AND SCREEN the subject with the MRI screening form and leave a signed copy of the STRUCTURAL & FUNCTIONAL MRI form in the lab (note: this signature is IN ADDITION to any HSPC froms specific to your project). [more info.]

3. Make sure the following windows are available on the instascan console: [more info.]
(Shim, Autoshim, and APD II)

4. Select [New Exam] on the Signa console, you must fill out the sign-in screen BEFORE you can place a subject in the scanner.[more info.]

5. Position the subject in the scanner (WITH headphones or ear plugs) [more info.]

6. Confirm that the subject is comfortable (e.g., is not claustrophobic) and can communicate with you [more info.]

7. Run a quick 'scout' scan to check for unanticipated metal in/on the subject [more info.]

8. Check to see that you are set to collect EPI data to the correct APD system disk for that day [more info.]

9. Run a SHIM scan to 'tune' the ANMR system to that particular subject's body size/shape [more info.]

10. Run YOUR research protocol [view a list of research protocols]
(e.g., select [cancel] from the 'SCAN OPERATIONS' Signa screen, then press [new series], and then press [list/select protocol], and then select and run the pre-saved protocol specific to YOUR experiment)

11. Liberate the subject (press [home] on the table movement panel in the magnet room)

12. Put everything away where it came from

13. When your experiment is completed----Log out of the lab, using the fMRI logger (when the lab is clean, empty, and again available for others to use).
